Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

In an effort to bring awareness of sexual assault and domestic violence in our community, men walk in women’s shoes (that Walk a Mile provides) up to two laps (about a mile) around the Riverfest grounds at Riverside Park. Proceeds from this event will be shared by the YWCA of the Coulee Region and the Carilee Fund of Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation.

The YWCA of the Coulee Region has been in La Crosse since 1906. The YWCA provides programming and services for women, youth and families, builds strong leaders, and advocates for women’s rights and civil rights. The mission of the YWCA is to empower women, eliminate racism and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. That mission is met in the offering of programming that serves many who struggle due to domestic violence.

The Carilee Fund has been created to provide resources to community members experiencing obstacles to leaving abusive relationships. The fund provides monetary assistance to anyone working with an agency that provides services for domestic violence. Since going “operational” in October 2006, the Carilee Fund has provided financial support to hundreds of survivors.
