La Crosse, WI (WXOW) – WAFER Food Pantry will be able to serve 8,000 more meals to local families thanks to a community donation.

On Thursday morning, Riverfest Inc. in collaboration with Reinhart Burger Bash presented WAFER Food Pantry a check for $2,000. That money comes from last year’s Reinhart Burger Bash.

Each year, proceeds from the event go to support a different local organization. Those at WAFER Food Pantry say the donation comes at a critical time of need.

“This comes at a particularly wonderful time for us,” said Erin Waldhart, Executive Director of WAFER Food Pantry. “This last month, we had the highest service months that we had in the last three years.”

Waldhart says the food donated from Rotary Lights usually lasts six to eight weeks. This season’s donations last less than a month.

“The need of the food pantry far exceeds what they get in donations from Rotary Lights, and again, with this $2,000, the need continues in our community for support,” said Terry Bauer with Reinhart Food Service.

Waldhart says the community continues to step up and support WAFER Food Pantry in times of need.
